TuSimple Taps Seasoned UPS & Walmart Leaders to Head Strategy and Fleet Operations

Lee White and Conrad Miller bring a combined 50 years of logistics experience to TuSimple

TUCSON, ARIZ.—April 30, 2020, TuSimple, a global autonomous trucking technology company, today announced that effective immediately, Lee White, who spent 35 years at UPS in various leadership roles, and Conrad Miller, who spent 15 years at Walmart as a Senior Director of Transportation and Senior Director of Technology, will serve as the organization’s Vice President of Strategy and Senior Director of Fleet Operations, respectively.

In his role as Vice President of Strategy, White will be responsible for commercial operations and infrastructure with a focus on business expansion. He will report to TuSimple President Cheng Lu and split time between the company’s headquarters in San Diego, California, and operations facility in Tucson, Arizona. 

As Senior Director of Fleet Operations, Miller will lead a large division responsible for vehicle quality, maintenance, manufacturing, and the team of safety drivers who oversee the autonomous system for TuSimple. The role is part of the company’s newly formed Autonomy Operations Group which focuses on vehicle reliability, availability, and utilization. Miller will report to Chief Product Officer Chuck Price, who also leads the Autonomy Operations Group, and will work out of the company’s Tucson facility.

Before joining TuSimple, White was a frontline leader for some of UPS’s largest districts. He improved service levels by managing large-scale operational changes, including implementing over 100 network solutions and strategic operating plans.

Miller worked at Walmart for over 15 years where he held various leadership roles within the company in areas of domestic and international supply chain and transportation. He is a retired U.S. Army officer and has served multiple forward area deployments, including three deployments to the Middle East.

TuSimple aims to transform the $800 billion U.S. trucking industry by enhancing safety, increasing efficiency, and significantly reducing operating costs. The company operates a fleet of more than 40 autonomous trucks, has 18 contracted customers, and makes 22 autonomous trips between Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas for companies like UPS every week. The company plans to start driverless operations in 2021.
